THE FRENCH RIVIERA -LOCATION-

One of the most famous resort areas in the world, the French Riviera continues west from the Italian Riviera and Menton through Monaco, Nice, Antibes and Cannes, along the Mediterranean coast of the Alpes-Maritimes département. The French Riviera is very famous for it climate, because it's a temperate winters and a hot summers.

CITIES

CANNES

Cannes is one of the best-known cities of the French Riviera, famous for the hotels, cars, beaches, and visitors. Cannes has become one of the busiest tourist destinations and especially during the annual Cannes Film Festival. Its old town, Le Suquet, is also a great place for its panoramic, where you can see all the city and the sea.
Cannes has night is a veritable centre of activity after the sun’s gone down. Casinos are very popular, and the most famous casinos in the city include Casino Croisette at the Palais des Festivals, Palm Beach Casino at Pointe de la Croisette, and Casino des Princes on boulevard de la Croisette. If a more traditional night out is your thing then you’ll find plenty of good bars across the city.

NICE

The city is a major tourist centre on the French Riviera. It is the historical capital city of the County of Nice. The Promenade des Anglais ("Walk of the English") is a celebrated promenade along the Mediterranean at Nice. Before Nice was urbanized, the coast at Nice was just bordered by a deserted band of beach covered by large pebbles.
Place Masséna is the main square of the city, a two-minute walk from Promenade des Anglais, old town, town centre, and Albert I Garden (Jardin Albert Ier). It is also a large crossroads between several of the main streets of the city.

MONACO

Monaco is the world's most densely populated country and second-smallest independent nation. With a population of just 32, 543 and an area of 2 km2. So, with 15 851 hab./km2 Monaco is the world's smallest, French-speaking country. The flag of Monaco reflects the heraldic colours of the Grimaldi family. It is one of the world's oldest national flag designs.
The distinction between the State and City of Monaco is just theoretical. The state in fact consists of one municipality (commune) only. According to the constitution of 1911, the principality was subdivided into three municipalities:
-Monaco (Monaco-Ville), the old city known as the Rock of Monaco, where the palace is located.
-Monte Carlo, the principal residential and resort area with the casino in the east and northeast
-La Condamine, the northwest section including the port area.
Rainier III, Prince of Monaco acceded to the throne following the death of his grandfather, Prince Louis II, in 1949. A new constitution, proclaimed in 1962, abolished capital punishment, provided for women's suffrage, and established a Supreme Court to guarantee fundamental liberties. In 1993, Monaco became a member of the United Nations, with full voting rights. By 31 March 2005, Prince Rainier III had become too ill to exercise his duties and relinquished them to his son Prince Albert (the son of the late actress and princess Grace Kelly). On 6 April 2005, after a reign of fifty-six years, Prince Rainier died and his son succeeded him as Albert II of Monaco. The flag of Monaco reflects the heraldic colours of the Grimaldi family. It is one of the world's oldest national flag designs.

ANTIBES

Anibes is a town located between Cannes and Nice, that is a favourite place for the holiday makers. There is a lot to see in the old town with its fortifications along the coast, little lanes with lovely shops, sidewalk cafes and restaurants. Today Antibes is called “Antibes-Juan-les-Pins”. The Juan-les-Pins part is the area that many tourists go to the beaches and where the nightlife can be found. There are 48 beaches along the 25km of the cost of Antibes and Juan les Pins. There are small family beaches, sporting beaches, long beaches with fine golden sand, which are perfect for sunbathing. Most of the good beaches are private, but you can stay here if you rent a mattress for the day. The main public beach is La Salis, on the edge of the Cap d’Antibes. Antibes still has a decent number of pubs, piano bars and even a couple of nightclubs. Piano bars seem to be the most popular type of hangout, followed by the Colonial Pub, a favorite of British expats and tourists alike. If you really want to party in Antibes, head to Casino La Siesta, where you can dance, eat, drink and gamble in the casino.

The other was Paul Hawkins during the 1965 event.

Festival of Jazz

Jazz à Juan remains one of the top jazz festivals in the world. Since its creation in 1960, it has attracted the greatest legends of jazz each year to play outdoors in this beautiful setting (July).

The Nice Carnival is the top winter event on the French Riviera. The city comes alive during a fortnight of festivities, with carnival processions, flower parades, concerts and fireworks, attracting over a million spectators.
Music flows from every street corner and huge papier mâché characters with giant heads parade through the city. Some on floats, some dancing with the crowds on the streets. The 2008 theme is "King of Bats, Cats, Rats And Other Legendary Creatures" (Roi des Ratapignatas, Raminagrobis et autres ramassis de Rats masqués).Spectacular processions take place along the seafront “Promenade des Anglais” and include the Bataille des Fleurs, a huge parade of flowers accompanied by marching bands and majorettes. GLOBAL WARMING

ONE OF THE MOST SERIOUS CHALLENGES FACING US TODAY!

Maybe when you listen “global warming” you think about science fiction movies or maybe you think that it’s just the nature or maybe that it is going to be along time when this problem comes true. Maybe you’re wrong. The layer that covers the planet is called atmosphere and its function is to keep the rays of the son inside the planet so it maintains a temperature of 15°C. Without this layer the temperature of the planet would be of -18°C. Without the greenhouse gases the planet won’t be able to function and this could cause a big disaster.
The increase of the greenhouse gases is caused principally by three effects: the gases that industries produce, the cut down of the trees and the population’s increase. This last effect implies that people need more natural resources like water, wool, food, etc. And here we have an important point: technologies.
Industries burn 2,500 million of tons of carbon dioxide per year, and cars burn 1,500 million of tons of CO2.

What are consequences of the global warming?
When the rays of the sun are kept between the planet and the atmosphere, the temperature increases, there is a shortage of water, the ice melts, and on the other hand there is also acid rain.
The rays of the sun get directly into the water of the planet and this make that the water evaporates quickly. So, when an hurricane occurs and collide with hot water it gets bigger! Also, the water of North and South poles melt. This effect makes that polar bears and seals die because they need the ice to survive.

Moreover the level of the sea increases causing more flooding. So, If the level of the sea increases 6 meters places like Florida, San Francisco, Beijing, Holland, Bangladesh, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz and more could be completely flooded.
You can keep cheating you, or maybe you can just keep thinking that these things won’t happen. But we have to start taking action right now!

Here are some tips that you can take to help your planet:

1. Change your light bulbs for those that save energy.
2. Turn off the computer, television, radio, etc if you are not using it.
3. Try not to use the heater or the air conditioning.
4. If you can, buy a hybrid car with automatic motor (engine).
5. Keep the wheels inflated.
6. Share your car, use public transport, walk or ride a bike.
7. Don’t waste water when you take a shower.
8. Recycle.
9. Wash your cloth with cold water.
10. Plant one tree.
11. Take care of the animals. Let them live!

... We are wasting the resources that our planet gives us! We have to start to do something and
we have to do it now!

You can check in www.myfootprint.org how many worlds do you need to can live... Please, take conscience of this problem!! You live here, your kids will be living here, please take action!

VIVE LATINO

Vive Latino is an annual rock festival held in Mexico City. It is one of the most important rock in Spanish festivals in Latin America. The event takes place in Foro Sol, a huge place that allows thousand of people to get in there. It takes place between the months of April and May.

The duration of the festival depends of the number of the bands that are going to attend. It can vary from one or two days. The kind of music that the bands perform are such as rock, punk, metal, ska and indie so people can listen their favourite music and have a great time in there.

There are three different stages: red, green and blue. The red is the principal one, and there is where the best bands perform, then the green and blue are for bands less known or less famous.

The place is very clogged, more than 250 thousand people are attending, even though you have the opportunity to get in the first line and see your favourite band like one meter away from you!

The most popular bands are Zoe, Cafe Tacuba, Division Minuscula, Fobia, Molotov, El Tri, Porter, Austin TV and more... They are Mexican bands and every year there is one guest, we don’t know yet which band is going to be this year but the last year was “The Magic Numbers” so we hope this year they give us a good SURPRISE and present a good band!

MEXICO

Mexico City should be in your must visit list if you are fan of museums, archaeological treasures, delicious cuisines, shopping centres, amazing nightlife and big plazas. This is one of the most crowded cities in the world. There you can find many travellers but if you want to have a wonderful time in this country you can also visit Guadalajara, Monterrey and Oaxaca.

Guadalajara is Mexico’s second largest city and it deserves a few days of your time. This is a city of monuments, parks and flowers, fountains and tree lined avenues. In this city you can find an old ranch where people produce Tequila, there is one tour and you can taste the best flavour of tequila!

Monterrey is a modern city and it is full of cultural offerings. In this city people are very friendly and helpful. Here you can find a different variety of nightclubs, restaurants and shopping centres!

Oaxaca is full of creative and artistic atmosphere, this make it different than the other cities in Mexico. There is enough history in the ruins among the hills and the valleys of this city. You can visit many archaeologist places and have an incredible cultural experience.

Now this is my dress...What are you hiding under your clothes?

As the UK is like any other western countries, here we wear same clothes as everywhere. Jeans or slims, tee shirts or sweater and shoes or high-heel. We're all the same.We wear suits for business, and special clothes for the climate include heavy coats or anoraks for a cold wintry weather and umbrellas for rain. Materials used cover every type and colour of fabric available, especially consider that Britain is a multi cultural society and in certain cities (Bradford for an example) you will find many stores with very colourful silk available for making in Sari's and other ethnic clothes.

A clothe , a color means a taste, a mood, or just a style.
Even perfume or accessories can make all the difference.

English teenagers or young people like famous brands like Nike, Puma... everything to follow the latest fashion. And you? what do you keep in your wardrobe?

memories, old fashion clothes...

Don't worry guys I didn't forget you!! Even if fashion is more for girls your own style is very interesting ... what do you suggest ?

The discussion is open!!!

HEALTH AND SPORT

Lazy day or Sport session ,
see how your body need to
move on

Lying on your sofa, watching TV, want to do nothing but relax. Whereas the sun is very bright and your friend ask you if you want to play a game like football or basketball. And you don’t want to be disturb so you say” I’m watching the game now, go away!”

Nowadays it’s not easy to practise a regular activity when you are students... Of course the solution is to join a club... more information ask” Union Student” A little survey has been made about students’ activities. and the question was:

According to you what do you prefer to do after class?

a. Relax and watch TV (sport for example)
b. Let of steam and run among the park or everywhere
c. Practise a regular sport and be in a club

Actually lot of students avowed that they prefer relax, but some of them also said that they practise some exercise like running or just walking.
In truth just walking is a good exercises for our body, just need to walk 20 min per day is sufficient. It’s even better if you walk everyday than if you’re just practise a jog just once a week.

But anyway the walk and jog if you have no time you always can do basics exercises. Many ways to keep fit begin with eating well
Your body and brain need vitamins and other elements.

“We are young and we have the life in front of us.
If we want to keep fit we have to do sport !!
I don’t want to be an old goat at 60 year old.
I have many projects and it’s just the beginning of my life”

Last words : Move around !No time to do nothing or your future will be worse.
